Spring in Dallas

Golden dust upon the breeze,

Floating soft through budding trees.

A silent spark, a fleeting kiss;

Spring awakens, born of this.

It’s the nicest thing I’ll ever say about pollen, and the last, I swear. We’re in the midst of spring and it’s important, necessary rather, to take action and get outside in Dallas. Before the trouble starts.

There are so very many ways to take advantage of our Sweet Spring City at this exact moment in time. The Rangers are back in Arlington. The Stars are in the playoffs. We’re not talking about the Mavs. You may have missed Irish Fest in Fair Park, but no worries! Scarborough Fair, our own special renaissance festival, is happening now. Yes! Right now! Go! Pack up the office, grab your friends, pick up the kids (or leave the kids), get a turkey leg and take yourself to a 16th century English village.

For me, spring is patio season. I don’t particularly care which patio I’m on either. Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House over by White Rock has a lovely patio. Jaquval (or really almost anywhere in Bishop Arts) has great seating, wonderful bites, and a very neighborly vibe going on away from the traffic. Dallas Parks tend to be overlooked but are literally everywhere and are an absolute treat to take in our lush, new greenery.

My own patio is a personal favorite. Despite the ever encroaching bamboo that I often feel at war with, it doesn’t even feel like I’m in the city back there. Maybe I intend on reading the book I brought out (a Stephen King currently), but I know I’ll just end up watching the dogs take in all the new sniffs and listening to our birds, the wind in the trees, and that one chicken a couple houses away who seems intent on letting all in the neighborhood know that he believes the end is nigh (repent now, lest you become supper).

I like to capitalize on this patio time because if you’re new and don’t yet know, it is fleeting. Soon the back yard will resemble the surface of Mercury, scorched bare, bereft of life, inviting not even to bacteria. The dogs will refuse to go outside, and so will I. Side note, spring is a great time to clean your a/c condenser. The big thing on the side or in back of your house with the fan on top? Rinse that thing out until the water runs clear. If you find yourself waiting until summer to do it, you may decide standing out there isn’t worth it and it’s time to move.

Speaking of moving, if that happens to be your intent or maybe considered a distant dream, our team would love to chat with you! Had enough of our summers (or even our spring storms with the hail and the wind and the Four Horsemen riding in on what look like tornadoes rather than horses)? We’ll get you and your house in tip top shape and on your way to fairer climates. If you’re worried about timing the market, please keep this in mind: it’s the right time to move when it’s the right time for you.

And if it is the right time for you, we’re here to help make that leap a little easier, a little smoother, and hopefully even a little fun. Whether you’re dreaming of shaded porches in the Hill Country, salty breezes on the Gulf, or simply a new corner of Dallas to call your own, we’ll walk you through it all—turkey legs and patio drinks included.

But for now, take a breath. Step outside. Let your allergies rage and your spirits rise. This moment—right here, with the golden light and just-warm-enough breeze—is the sweet spot. Sneeze your way through it if you must, but don’t let it pass you by.

After all, we’ve got about three more weeks before it’s just us and the mosquitoes.
